Man Dies After Being Pulled from West Suburban Pond

A man died early Sunday after being pulled from a pond in west suburban Oak Brook, according to police.

At approximately 7:35 a.m., the Oak Brook Police and Fire Departments responded to a call of a person struggling in the water at the Briarwood Lakes gated community, which borders Route 83 to the east.

Upon arrival, police said there was no sign of anyone in the water, but the Fire Department dive team was able to pull an unresponsive man out of the pond.

It was estimated that he had been in the water approximately thirty minutes before divers pulled him out, officials said. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Isaac Martinez, whose last known residence was in Glen Ellyn. Police said they also discovered an abandoned car on southbound Route 83 between I-88 and 31st St. Officials were able to determine that the car was driven by Martinez prior to his death.

Police said the circumstances surrounding Martinez's entrance into the water are unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
