Man Checks Out of Hotel, Leaves Marijuana in Fridge: Cops

A southwest suburban is facing charges for having marijuana in a tub of butter, which he forgot in the refrigerator of a hotel room.

Armondo M. Guthrie, 22, of Palos Hills was arrested about 2:15 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Extended Stay America Chicago-Burr Ridge, according to police.

He called the hotel after checking out and told the clerk he’d left something behind, Burr Ridge Deputy Police Chief Marc Loftus said.

“One of the hotel staff recognized the item as ‘Bud Butter’ and they called the police to let us know,” Loftus said.

Bad Butter is marijuana leaves cooked with butter and then kept refrigerated.

Detectives encountered Guthrie in the lobby when he returned to retrieve the butter and charged him with possession of marijuana, Loftus said.

Amoress M. Melesio, 23, of Palos Heights, a friend of Guthrie, was also arrested and charged with disobeying a police officer as she was driving out of the hotel parking lot. She also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

When responding to the call about the butter, officers smelled marijuana in a hotel hallway, Loftus said.

Two other people in two different rooms were also arrested.

Derrick D. Sallay, 23, of Hinsdale, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver after 2.5-10 grams were found in individual packages in his hotel room. Nicholas Burns, 35, of Rolling Meadows, was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
