A Lansing man was charged with attempted first-degree murder of his child's grandmother

A Lansing man was taken into custody early Saturday morning and charged with attempted first-degree murder of his child's grandmother.

James E. Wenig, 46, of South Chicago Heights broke into the home of his child's mother and grandmother around 2:45 a.m. and repeatedly stabbed the grandmother, police said. He then fled the scene on a motorcycle.

Wenig was found a short time later and taken into custody at the Lansing Police Department while the grandmother was transported to a local hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

Wenig is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing at the 6th District Cook County Court Monday.
