Man Charged with Killing Boy Inside Pizzeria

The pair got into an argument before the shooting, police said

A North Side man is charged with killing a teenage gang rival inside an Uptown pizza restaurant.

Andre Alejandro, 22, of the 1400 block of West Chase Avenue, faces first-degree murder charges for shooting and killing Ivan Alanis, 14, according to a police statement.

Alejandro and Alanis got into an argument inside the restaurant Tuesday. Alejandro allegedly left and returned with a handgun and fired through an open door, hitting Alanis while he ate pizza with his sister and her friend, said police.

Alejandro ran away, police said. The teen was pronounced dead at Illinois Masonic Hospital.

Alejandro is a member of the Gangster Disciples, and Alanis was a member of a rival gang, the Chicago Tribune reports.

However, Alanis' father, Rogelio Alanis, told the paper his son didn't belong to any gang.

Alejandro is due in court Wednesday.
