Police charged a man in the previously unsolved murder of a 24-year-old woman who was stabbed to death in 1984.

Melvin Green, 44, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the case.

On March 17, 1984, the victim was found stabbed to death in her apartment in the 5800 block of North Winthrop. Police were unable to find her killer. But officers in the Cold Case Unit took another look at the case in 2008, and found DNA evidence they say matched Green.
