Man Charged With Sexual Assault of Student Near DePaul University Campus

The victim told police the offender approached her from behind, pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her

A North Side man was charged Saturday with the sexual assault of a DePaul University student near campus.

Isidrio Valverde, 40, is accused of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman who was walking in the 900 block of West Belden Avenue around 1:40 a.m. Thursday. The woman told police Valverde approached her from behind, pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. He then fled the scene on foot.

A public safety alert from DePaul University sent Thursday morning said the woman was returning to her apartment at the time of the attack.

The victim was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition, police said.

During the course of his arrest, police said Valverde intentionally struck an officer with his vehicle. The officer was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released.

Valverde, of the 5100 block of North Sheridan Road, was charged felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and bodily harm and resisting a peace officer, according to police. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of driving on a revoked license, driving without insurance and reckless driving.
