A man charged with shooting another man Saturday night in Streeterville, less than an hour after the Fourth of July fireworks display at Navy Pier, has been ordered held without bond.
Marquell D. Barnes, 20, faces one count of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and use of a stolen firearm to commit an offense, all felonies, according to a statement from Chicago Police. He was also charged with one misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
About 10 p.m. Saturday, an 18-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in the 200 block of East Ohio, blocks away from Navy Pier, police said.
He was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.
Barnes was arrested by responding officers after he was identified as the shooter, police said. A firearm was recovered, which had been previously reported stolen.
Barnes, of the 3500 block of West 13th Place, was ordered held without bond during a hearing Monday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. He is next scheduled to appear in court Friday.
