Man Charged With Leaving Kids in Hot Car

Gerardo Oruzco

A Cicero man was ordered held on $250,000 bail for allegedly leaving his two young children in a hot car last week while he drank and did drugs.

Gerardo Oruzco, 35, was charged with two counts of reckless conduct and endangering the life of a child, according to police. Oruzco is accused of leaving his sons, ages 3 and 1, in a vehicle on an 80-degree day in the 1600 block of South Laramie, police said.

Oruzco was arrested Friday after someone saw the children strapped into the back seat of the vehicle, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Sun-Times reports the man told police he was drinking in a bar and using cocaine.

The boys were treated for dehydration.
