Emaciated Dog Found in Harvey Home

A Harvey man faces felony animal cruelty charges after Cook County Sheriff’s deputies said they found several abused dogs in his home and one dog that had died.

William Roberson, 37, was arrested and charged with two counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals as well as nine misdemeanors.

Police said they discovered one dog dead in the basement on the 50 block of West 151st Street and another dog that was emaciated and could not walk because of a leg injury. Another emaciated dog, police said, was found in a crate outside of the home.

Five other dogs appeared to be in better condition, police said. All of the pets were taken to a veterinarian for treatment by the South Suburban Humane Society. The deceased dog also was turned over to the humane society.

Police said the animals were initially found by an evictions team after Roberson had been named in the eviction order for the house.

There was no indication of dog fighting, police said.
