Man Arrested for Shooting Death of 7-Year-Old Chicago Boy

Amari Brown was killed in a shooting in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood while watching fireworks with his father

A man was arrested in Wisconsin Wednesday for the shooting death of a 7-year-old Chicago boy over Fourth of July weekend, according to Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Amari Brown was killed in a shooting in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood just before midnight July 4 while watching fireworks with his father, Antonio Brown. Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said Brown was the intended target, but his attorney denies that claim.

Rasheed Martin, 23, was taken into custody without incident at a residence in the Bartley Manor Complex in Douglas County.

Officers from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Superior Police Department arrested Martin on a homicide warrant out of the state of Illinois. The U.S. Marshalls Service also assisted with the arrest.

Amari's family said the little boy was a "jokester" and acted like a typical 7-year-old boy who loved to run and play. They said the best way to describe him is "a sweet, sweet little boy."

Martin is being held in the Douglas County Jail pending extradition to Illinois.
