Man Arrested for 2008 Murder of an Infant

Boy was former girlfriend's son

A Plainfield man was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with the 2008 murder of his ex-girlfriend's 8-month-old son.

Santos Loza Jr., 30, is scheduled to appear in Will County court this morning.

In October 2008, Sandra Sitko dropped off her son, Kevion Bender, at Loza's Joliet residence before going to work. She had been dating Loza for about two months.

Sitko returned at 11 p.m. to spend the night, according to police, and found 8-month-old Kevion unconscious in the morning, just before 5 a.m. The boy was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead from "multiple blunt-force head trauma."

While the investigation focused on Loza as a suspect from the beginning, sources suggest that intricate and detailed forensic work caused the 2-year delay in Loza's arrest.

Loza is being held in the Will County Adult Detention Facility on a $3 million bond.
