Man Toting Assault Rifle at North Side CTA Stop Arrested: Police

Charges were pending against a 29-year-old man Saturday who was arrested after brandishing an assault rifle on the Belmont Red Line stop, police said.

The man was arrested after officers responded to the platform at 945 W. Belmont Ave. about 6:30 a.m. after a call of a man with a gun, police said.

The Chicago Transit Authority did not immediately respond to request for comment.

A witness reportedly told local blog “Crime in Wrigleyville and Boystown” the weapon was an AK-47 with a “huge clip” and that the rifle was tied around the man’s neck.

Police said more information would be released if charges against the man are approved.
