Man Allegedly Dons Burqa Disguise in ATM Theft

Authorities say a security guard donned a burqa to disguise himself as he stole $168,000 from a suburban Chicago ATM this week.

The allegations against 31-year-old Gildardo Lopez Jr. of Chicago and an alleged accomplice are spelled out in a criminal complaint filed Friday.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the filing says authorities arrested Lopez Thursday outside a Chase Bank in La Grange. It says he was dressed in the all-concealing garment worn by some Muslim women and carrying a suitcase full of cash.

The complaint says Lopez had been hired to service the ATM and then boasted of the planned theft to an informant. He also allegedly planned to escape to the Dominican Republic and buy a home there.

It wasn't immediately clear if Lopez had an attorney.
