Man, 65-Year-Old Woman Shot in South Shore

A 21-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman were shot Saturday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood.

The man and woman were standing in the 7000 block of South Merrill at about 2:30 p.m. when someone exited an alley and began shooting at the man, police said.

The man was shot in the abdomen and suffered a graze wound to the thigh, according to police. The woman was struck in the back and the arm.

Both victims were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The woman was listed in stable condition, but the condition of the man was not known.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
