Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead in the far South Side Pullman neighborhood early Saturday.

Bernard Arnold, 59, was standing at the back door of his house on the 12000 block of South Indiana Avenue, when he was shot in the head, chest and ankle, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:52 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Arnold had been playing cards with three other men when he went to answer a knock at the back door of his house, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.

The other men in the home did not see the gunmen, and police had no description of the offender or offenders and the motive for the shooting was not immediately known.

    Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
