The Chicago Cubs knocked off the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field, but after the game, manager Joe Maddon was still angry about the game after star first baseman Anthony Rizzo was hit by a pitch.
“We’re not going to put up with that -- from them or anybody else,” he said. “We’re not going to take that.”
In the contest, Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday was struck in the head by an errant pitch from Cubs starter Dan Haren. Both benches were issued a warning after the pitch, but the Cardinals responded in kind in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs and nobody on, Rizzo was plunked by a pitch from Cardinals reliever Matt Belisle.
The pitcher was immediately ejected from the game, and the rest of the contest passed without incident.
After the game, Maddon addressed the situation, and he didn’t pull any punches.
“I don’t know who put out the hit,” Maddon said. “I don’t know if Tony Soprano was in the dugout. I didn’t see him in there.”
“I don’t give a crap about the Cardinals’ book,” he added. “We don’t start stuff, but we’ll stop it.”

The Cubs and Cardinals still have two games remaining in this series, which marks the final time they will meet during the regular season. The teams’ paths could potentially cross again in the postseason, as the Cardinals are looking to win the NL Central and the Cubs are looking to secure one of the two NL wild card spots.
