Driver Charged with Striking Skateboarder in Bucktown

Police have charged a man in the hit-and-run accident that left a skateboarder in critical condition.

Luis P. Pena, 30, faces two felony counts of aggrevated driving under the influence and one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident along with several misdemeanor charges, according to a statement from police News Affairs.

Pena allegedly drove a Dodge Neon southbound on the 1700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue and hit the skateboarder about 2 a.m. on Friday, police said. The skateboarder, described by police as a 42-year-old man, was in the bike lane at the time of the accident, police said.

The vehicle fled on North Avenue, but officers spotted it and stopped the driver blocks away.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
