Lottery Format Chosen For Chicago Marathon Registration

15,000 slots available after web site crashed during initial registration

The lottery-based registration for the 15,000 remaining slots in the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon begins early Tuesday morning.

Interested runners can enter the lottery at ChicagoMarathon.com anytime between 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and 9 p.m. on Thursday.

From those entries, 15,000 names will be randomly selected to fill the remaining spots in the 2013 Chicago Marathon. Those individuals will be notified on Tuesday, March 12, and they will have until 9 p.m. CST on Thursday, March 14, to complete their official registration.

Registrations not completed by the deadline will expire, and won't be re-issued. Officials say the order or time the entries are received will have no bearing the chances to win.

More information is available on the ChicagoMarathon.com website or by calling the marathon office at 312.904.9800.

The registration was suspended on Feb. 19 after the system crashed, preventing many runners from completing the process.

This year's race is scheduled for Oct. 13.
