8/1/2014: Day of Lollapalooza 2014 is in the books. NBC 5's Natalie Martinez reports. (Published Friday, Aug 1, 2014)

Thousands of people packed into Grant Park Friday for the first day of Lollapalooza 2014.

But it wouldn't be Lollapalooza if there wasn't some rain involved. Showers pelted concert-goers Friday afternoon, but rain chances were expected to clear out by the early evening.

More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the festival each of the three days, taking in 137 acts on eight stages.

Tickets sold out in minutes months ago, but that's just the beginning of what will be an expensive weekend for many.

"The plane ticket of course, that was a couple hundred, about 500, and then the hotel room, that another $200 to $300," said one out-of-town festival-goer.

Friday night's headliners include Eminem, Arctic Monkeys and Lorde and before the weekend is over, acts such as Kings of Leon and Outkast will also take to the stage.

Lollapalooza brings in an estimated $140 million of revenue to the city.
