The Illinois attorney general is accusing a national tax preparer of costing customers hundreds of thousands of dollars through hidden costs and inaccurate tax returns.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the company Mo' Money. The lawsuit seeks to shut Mo' Money locations around Chicago and East St. Louis. It could also force the company to refund $800,000 to customers.
Madigan says some customers lost $700 each. The company deducted fees without permission, filed documents riddled with errors and failed to get people their refund checks.
She says people who had their taxes prepared by Mo' Money should contact the IRS.
