Hundreds of mourners gathered Saturday to honor a local Marine who made the ultimate sacrifice.

LCpl. James Stack, who grew up in Arlington Heights, died Nov. 11 in Afghanistan. His family learned of his death on Veterans Day.

The 20-year-old was honored at Mount Prospect High School. Stack's family, friends and fellow troops were on hand, along with Illinois' governor.

Stack had only been in Afghanistan a month when he was killed. He is survived by his wife, 1-year-old daughter, parents and sister.

He was laid to rest at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
