Laptop Helps Save 21-Year-Old's Life in Motorcycle Crash

Nicolas Laboy will soon be able to walk after a horrific motorcycle crash three months ago – thanks in part to his laptop.

The 21-year old army reserve specialist who lives in Bolingbrook was riding to work when he was involved in an accident that left him with several injuries including a broken fibula and tibia, a fractured right foot, a third-degree burn on his thigh, a ruptured spleen, a fractured shoulder and three fractures in his spine.

Laboy said that he was getting ready to cross an intersection and someone was going to make a left, but he remembers nothing else.

Laboy said he has had 13 surgeries for his injuries, but it could have been worse. Laboy was wearing his helmet and a backpack with this laptop inside.

“Between those two things it saved me from breaking my spine essentially,” Laboy said.

Laboy’s mother and girlfriend have been by his side through it all.

“I feel like I won the lottery,” his mother Ilda Laboy said. “My son is my heart and soul. Without him my life would be nothing.”
