Lakeshore Flood Advisory Takes Effect

As high winds, scattered showers and thunderstorms hit the Chicago area Saturday afternoon, a Lakeshore Flood Advisory took effect at 1 p.m. and will remain until Sunday morning.

Waves are expected to reach as high as 8 to 12 feet causing dangerous conditions along the lakeshore.

The Chicago Lakefront Trail and bike path will likely be hit the hardest and expected to be impassable due to the high waves.

Saturday’s heavy downpours will bring an upwards of 2 inches of rain in some locations.

Temperatures for the weekend will be a lot colder than average. Once the front passes Saturday morning, temperatures will plunge some 20 to 25 degrees in just a matter of hours. Conditions will dip into the low- to mid-50s in most areas.

Some recovery will be possible by late afternoon in a few spots as temps could reach 60 degrees in inland areas. The unseasonably cool conditions will continue through Sunday with winds off the lake keeping temperatures in the low- to mid-50s.

After a cool start to the week, temperatures will steadily recover with temps returning to the 80s Wednesday and Thursday.
