Kris Bryant, Cubs Grace Cover of Sports Illustrated

Looks like Sports Illustrated has jumped on the Cubs bandwagon.

The Chicago Cubs are one of baseball’s hottest stories as a talented crop of rookie stars and first-year manager Joe Maddon have turned the team from doormats to serious playoff contenders, and this week, they were recognized by more than just die-hard fans at Wrigley Field.

Sports Illustrated will feature the Cubs on their regional cover this week as they celebrate the team’s recent run of 20 wins in 24 games. The cover image features third baseman Kris Bryant as he heads for home (escorted by reliever Pedro Strop) after hitting a walk-off home run against the Cleveland Indians on Monday afternoon.

Here is the picture from the magazine’s cover:

Whether the cover jinxes the Cubs remains to be seen (although this cover from 2004 certainly didn’t do the team any favors), but it’s apparent that the team is forcing people to take notice on a national scale.
