Jury Convicts 2 Brothers in 2011 Rape Case

A Cook County jury took less than three hours Thursday to convict two brothers for a 2011 rape.

The case was unique in that the brothers represented themselves in court, which allowed one of the defendants to cross-examine the woman who said she was assaulted.

This was the first of six potential rape trials involving either L.B. or Leondo Joseph. Both brothers were charged in a multiple count indictment in September 2014. Prosecutors alleged the brothers acted together in two rapes while Leondo Joseph was charged in four additional assaults.

In the case before Cook County Judge Dennis Porter, the victim said she was abducted at gunpoint and held for eight hours as the brothers repeatedly assaulted her.

Questions posed by the brothers in court were routinely rejected by the judge following objections by prosecutors.

A sentencing is pending.
