Jon Burge Returns To The Stand

Former Chicago police lt. Jon Burge is set to return to the witness stand in his federal perjury and obstruction of justice trial.

Burge is accused of lying in a civil lawsuit when he denied seeing or participating in the torture of suspects.

The 62-year-old retiree spent nearly six hours on the witness stand last week.

He again denied ever physically abusing anyone, and he said he'd never seen any other officers be abusive.

Prosecutors are scheduled to continue their cross-examination of him on Monday.

Government witnesses have alleged that Burge and the men under his command suffocated, shocked and beat them in order to get confessions in the 1970s and 1980s.

Burge has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
