The Chicago Blackhawks acquired a veteran defenseman from the Dallas Stars in the trade that sent Patrick Sharp to the Lone Star State, and the Stars responded by poaching a veteran defenseman from the Hawks as Johnny Oduya agreed to a two-year contract with the team.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but in Oduya Dallas is getting a player with a winning pedigree. He won two Stanley Cups in his three full seasons with the Blackhawks, playing an instrumental role on the blue line as he primarily played with Niklas Hjalmarsson on the second pairing.
In 76 games last season, Oduya had two goals and eight assists for the Hawks, his low marks in his three seasons with the organization. He also had five assists in 23 postseason games.
Oduya is reunited in Dallas with several former Blackhawks, including Sharp and defensive prospect Stephen Johns. Former Blackhawks goaltender Antti Niemi also will be wearing a Stars jersey next season.
