Jet Skier Rescued Off Lake Michigan by Good Samaritans

A man in his 50s was found safe after he went missing while jet skiing with his brother Saturday afternoon near 63rd Street.

Authorities said the man was rescued just before 4 p.m. near 57th Street and Lake Michigan. He was not injured.

The man said he was about two miles off shore taking pictures of the skyling with his brother when his brother turned to head in, but his jetski wouldn’t start.

“He took off and when I went to start my waverunner it wouldn’t start,” said Rick Martin. “He didn’t look back.”

When his brother returned to shore and realized Martin was missing, he alerted authorities.

Martin said he was out on the water for about 45 minutes before two good samaritans came by on a boat and towed him to shore.

“I was just stuck out there, floating around, bobbing around, and the waves were starting to get a little hairy,” Martin said. “I’m just so happy that I got off that lake.”

Martin said he’ll go out on the water again, but plans to stay much closer to the shore.
