A Cook County Jail inmate accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl faces new charges that he sought to hire a hit man to kill the victim and her family.
Twenty-eight-year-old Brian Thurman, from the western Chicago suburb of Melrose Park, was charged in January with sexually assaulting the girl at a motel.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office says that several weeks later Thurman requested the help of another inmate in trying to hire someone to kill the girl, her 16-year-old sister and her mother.
He was given a phone number, but the person he believed was a hit man was actually an undercover investigator.
Thurman allegedly offered to give the supposed hit man $8,000 and his car.
The sheriff's office said Saturday Thurman now faces murder for hire charges.
