Five Charged After Baby Dies in Filthy Home

Police find 3-month-old amid garbage, food and cockroaches

Five adults were charged in connection with the death of a 3-month-old baby found in a dirty, crowded Northwest Side apartment Tuesday morning.

Officers responding to a call about the boy's death at about 6:30 a.m. found a roach-infested home, with food and garbage scattered throughout.

The boy, two-month old Iven Carlos,  was transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of the death.

Officials said there were well over a dozen people living in the one flat on the 3100 block of West Ainslie Street.

The Chicago Tribune's Breaking News web site reported that State officials found 10 other children living in the Albany Park apartment, along with the five adults named in the complaint.

The suspects, all tenants of the apartment, have been charged with misdemeanor endangering the life/health of a child.

They are:

--Margaret Kaseska, 28, (2 counts)
--Barbara Morris, 60, (1 count)
--Jessica Morris, 33, (7 counts)
--Jerry Morris, 32, (2 counts)
--Jerry Morris, Sr., 56, (1 count)

The apartment building's management company said the family was about to be evicted at the end of the month because of crowding and cleanliness issues.
