Indiana Toll Road Reopens After Crane Overturns

The 35-ton crane was moving steel rebar when it toppled

All lanes along the Indiana Toll Road near the Grant Street exit in Gary were closed overnight after a crane overturned.

The accident happened in a construction zone just before 7 p.m. Monday. Police reopened the road around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The 35-ton piece of equipment was moving a load of steel rebar from the construction area onto its side when the crane toppled, leaving it blocking the far left westbound lane.

The crane operator was not injured.
