Indiana State Police officials on Saturday closed Interstate 65 near Lafayette in both directions because of multiple crashes.

State police said fire and rescue personnel were called to mile marker 174, near the State Road 25 exit.

Both north and southbound I-65 were closed between the 175 exit and the 172 exit. Drivers were told to seek alternate routes of travel.
