Illinois State Police are investigating an early morning highway shooting on I-57 at the Cal-Sag Channel.

Police said two people were injured in an exchange of gunfire at 147th and I-57 around 2:11 a.m. Friday. Several vehicles were involved, police said, including a white Audi, a white Nissan and possibly another vehicle.

When police arrived, they located four suspects in a white Audi and detained them for questioning. They remain in custody in Blue Island.

Police said witnesses confirmed the exchange of gunfire between multiple vehicles and told police that two other subjects jumped into a third vehicle and drove to an area hospital with non-life threatening gunshot injuries.

Police said a weapon was recovered. It's not known if the suspects involved were known acquaintances.
