5 Years For Showing Up At Obama's House With A Gun

Okay, okay, we get it. Yes, it’s the South Side of Chicago and yes, crime happens. But showing up at the President’s house carrying a weapon? Not cool, dude.

A Cook County judge agrees, evidenced by the 5-year sentence he gave to a man who showed up at President Obama’s Hyde Park home last fall with a weapon.

Cook County Judge Nicholas Ford on Friday sentenced Omhair Sengstacke, 31, to 5 years in prison. Following a bench trial, Ford found Senstacke guilty of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.

The maximum sentencing could have been 7 years in prison.

Sengstacke didn’t threaten Obama in any way when he showed up to Obama’s home on Sept. 23. He was at the home to talk to Obama about getting a job and continually approached officers that were conducting a security detail near the then-senator’s house.

Police found a .40-caliber semi-automatic weapon in Sengstacke’s BMW as well as a bulletproof vest and ammunition, prosecutors said.

You know, standard driving-around-town stuff. Uhh, right.

Obama was in his South Side home at the time of Sengstacke’s appearance, but Sengstacke never made it to the building.

Sengstacke’s relatives released a statement insisting he intended no harm and that the family supports Obama.

Support Obama all you want, but as for bringing a gun to the President’s house -- no he can’t.
