Hundreds of Fathers Across Chicago Take Children to School for ‘Million Father March'

The march began in a church basement on Chicago's South Side 12 years ago

Hundreds of fathers and father figures across Chicago took their children to school for the first day of classes as part of the "Million Father March."

At Pershing East Magnet School, fathers lined the hallways, clapping for the students and shaking their hands as they walked into their first classes of the day.

The march began in a church basement on Chicago's South Side 12 years ago, and it has since grown into a nationwide initiative. This year, Chicago was one of 550 cities across the country participating, with more than 1 million fathers marching.

The idea behind the march is to encourage fathers and other men in children's lives to participate in their education and provide more support at school.

The "Million Father March" is an initiative of the Black Star Project, a Chicago-based non-profit that provides educational services in African-American and Latino communities.
