Hundreds of Chicago Flights Canceled Due to Severe Weather

More than 520 flights have been canceled at Chicago airports as severe weather welcomed the start of the week Sunday morning.

According to the Chicago Department of Aviation, as of 11:50 a.m. Sunday about 526 flights were canceled. At O’Hare International Airport 482 flights were canceled, with flight delays of over an hour; meanwhile in Midway 44 were reportedly canceled with delays of about less than 15 minutes.

As warm and humid air remained parked in areas of Chicago, residents woke up to another round of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The overnight hours were mostly quiet, but scattered showers and thunderstorms along with small hail, and gusty winds were expected throughout the morning until around noon Sunday with temperature highs likely remaining in the low 80s.
