Hoosier Charged with Restaurant Manager's Murder

Body of 47-year-old victim found in Lucca's basement

An Indiana man was charged Friday with the fatal beating of a North Side restaurant manager.

Forty-seven-year-old Randall Hilderbrand was found in the basement of Lucca's Italian and Mediterranean restaurant, at 2834 N. Southport Ave., on Oct 15.  An autopsy determined he suffered multiple injuries from an assault and his death was ruled a homicide.

David Sidener, 50, was charged with one count each of first-degree murder and robbery, police said. Sidener will  appear in Violence Court Friday at noon.

Hilderbrand’s body was found about 2:10 p.m. when an exterminator and maintenance man arrived to do work at the restaurant and found the door unlocked. The workers assumed the person they usually met was already inside. so they entered the restaurant to start working and found the victim dead in the basement, police said.

Sources said Hilderbrand was bound.

Police News Affairs Director Monique Bond said the killer was a "known acquaintance."

Edie Teich, the owner of the restaurant, said money had been taken, but it was unclear when Hilderbrand was last seen alive.

Teich said Hilderbrand had worked at the restaurant for two years.
