Sept. 2, 2011: The boy's mother, 25-year-old Margaret Jefferson, was seriously wounded after her boyfriend, believed to be the child’s father, allegedly attacked the pair in their west side Austin home.

According to prosecutors, the couple was arguing when Sandifer sexually assaulted the woman at knife point. Authorities say he stabbed her four times and pushed her out of a window. She survived and was able to flag down a passing policeman.

But Sandifer fatally stabbed their son before the officer could enter the apartment.

Sandifer is to be sentenced next month, and faces up to life in prison.
