Highland Park Proclaims “Jason Brown Day”

Highland Park Olympic figure skater Jason Brown was honored in a big way by his hometown Friday.

The town got into the Olympic spirit by proclaiming "Jason Brown" day in honor of the skater who will compete in the men's singles event.

Signs are posted all over town paying homage to Brown and students at Brown's alma mater, Highland Park High School, are asking students to support his achievements by wearing stickers.

"I walked in and everyone was giving me stickers saying it was Jason Brown Day. I've got nine stickers all over the place," Jason's brother, Dylan, said.

Students are signing a banner that will be sent to Sochi to display during his Olympic events.

"We've all seen Jason grow in our school and students have connections with him, so it's actually building upon the relationship that Jason has established with friends and family here in our community," teacher Lesa Friedrich said.

Brown has also become quite the internet sensation. The Youtube video of his performance during the U.S. championship last month has already surpasses 3.5 million views.

"I just think it's so amazing that he was able to reach his goal, and it's an inspiration for me to realize that I can follow my dreams too," student Tyler Forelich said.

"I just hope that when he goes out there, he does his best, that's all that matters," Dylan Brown said.
