‘Hamilton' Makes Highly Anticipated Chicago Debut Tuesday

Broadway’s beloved “Hamilton” finally made its highly-anticipated Chicago debut this week.

The Tony-award winning musical opens at Private Bank Theatre Tuesday night, with Chicago being the first city outside of New York to get the wildly popular and critically acclaimed show.

On Tuesday morning a line stretched for blocks as people tried to score tickets for a newly announced run of shows starting in March of 2017. The wait is a long one, but theater enthusiasts say what won't stop them from seeing history unfold on stage.

"I'm really excited--I'm really excited!" said Ulla Siversten of Park Ridge outside the show.

Erin Donahue, of Wilmette, said she's been waiting since February to see the production.

Beginning Tuesday, a limited number of tickets will be sold to winners of a day-of-show digital lottery for only $10 each.

A total of 44 tickets will be released through the digital lottery for all “Hamilton” performances, the show’s producer Jeffrey Seller announced last week. Some seats will be in the front row and others in boxes, Broadway in Chicago officials said.

The lottery opens at 9 a.m. on the show’s website here.

Lottery prices include a $3 fee, are nontransferable and patrons must be 18 years or older with a photo ID matching the name used to enter the lottery.
