$90K Worth of Human Hair Nabbed in Heist

Burglars pried open a steel door at Beauty One and snatched the human hair

"Top of the line" human hair was stolen from a beauty supply store on Sunday morning on the Near South Side.

Thieves apparently knew what they're were targeting and made off with $90,000 worth of hair at Beauty One, at 616 W. Roosevelt Rd., owner Jay Han told NBCChicago.

Workers from the nearby Maxwell Street Market were just setting up for the day near 616 W. Roosevelt Rd. at 6:40 a.m. when police responded to Beauty One because an alarm had gone off, according to a Central District police sergeant.

"A huge steel door had been pried open, with two deadbolt locks on it," the sergeant said. Whoever broke in also damaged the door’s frame and bricks on the building around the rear door.

Han's security cameras caught the men in the act, prying open the door and draggin out the merchandise.

The market workers said they didn't know anything about what happened.

"I’ve been to a lot of robberies, but never with hair," the sergeant said.

Han blames the economy for the theft and thinks the thieves will sell the goods on the street or even at the market. Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
