A man who pleaded guilty to robbing 11 hair salons in Chicago and the suburbs in 2012 and 2013 has been sentenced to 14 years in prison, prosecutors announced Wednesday.
Jason Logsdon, 42, of Chicago, robbed 11 salons between Dec. 26, 2012, and Jan. 23, 2013, using a BB gun that looked like a revolver, according to a statement from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office. He would approach the salon’s counter and order employees to fill the backpack he carried with money.
Of the 11 robberies for which he was convicted, five took place in Chicago, two in Skokie, two in Niles, one in Morton Grove and one in Broadview.
The robbery spree ended on Feb. 4, 2013 when Logsdon was arrested after robbing the Great Clips salon at 1238 N. Ashland in Chicago, prosecutors said. An employee followed him and got his license plate number as he drove away, and police identified the vehicle’s owner as Logsdon’s girlfriend.
A search of the vehicle turned up the BB gun and backpack used in all of the robberies, many of which were captured on video, prosecutors said. Several of the salon employees later identified Logsdon in lineups.
Logsdon told police he used the money to support a crack cocaine habit and targeted hair salons because most of the employees were women, and he thought the crimes would be less risky, prosecutors said.
At the Skokie courthouse on Wednesday, Cook County Judge Marguerite Quinn sentenced Logsdon to 14 years in prison.
Losgdon also faces charges in DuPage County for robbing the Sport Clips in Lombard,; the Hair Cuttery in Lombard, the Great Clips in Glen Ellyn; and the Smokers Best tobacco shop in Bensenville, according to DuPage County prosecutors.
