Guns Stolen From Illinois Nuclear Power Plant

The facility’s security was not breached during the theft and remained secure at all times, according to officials

Two guns were stolen from an Illinois nuclear power plant, NBC 5 Investigates has learned.

The weapons were taken from the LaSalle County Generating Station in Marseilles, about 75 miles southwest of Chicago.

Exelon officials say the theft has not impacted operations for the northern Illinois plant, which can produce enough energy to power more than 2.3 million homes.

The facility’s security was not breached during the theft and remained secure at all times, according to officials.

Police have been notified of the theft and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has launched an investigation into the incident.

The NRC says they will take the appropriate action and that the public is not in any danger.
