Was Jon Stewart right about deep-dish pizza?

GrubHub analyzed its pizza orders in Chicago over the past year and found that only about 9 percent included either deep-dish or stuffed. The Windy City-based online food-ordering company also found that other types of pizza are 10 times more popular than deep-dish or stuffed pizzas.

The findings only cover the Chicago restaurants that partner with GrubHub, which means deep-dish pizza favorites Giordano’s and Lou Malnati’s aren't on the list. Still it's a tough pill to swallow after local pizza lovers recently banded together to defend deep-dish pizza against "The Daily Show" host's tirade.

"I may have implied that deep-dish pizza takes like string cheese that had been baked for two hours inside Mike Ditka's ass," Stewart said last month before calling a truce.

GrubHub's findings don't profess the city's shining love for deep-dish pizza, at least not online, but there's a silver lining. The company found its deep-dish pizza orders in Chicago are slowly on the rise. Over the past two years orders increased by 0.5 percent a year.

Other interesting pizza points: Men are 12 percent more likely to order deep-dish or stuffed pizza than women, and the most popular deep-dish or stuffed pizzas were ordered from Chicago's Pizza in Lakeview. The most popular toppings for these types of pizzas are spinach, garlic and beef.

The neighborhoods most likely to order deep-dish or stuffed pizza? Mayfair, Englewood, Armour Square and Hyde Park.
