‘Go, Cubs, Go' Hits Billboard Charts for First Time Ever

Steve Goodman’s song “Go, Cubs, Go” has been playing on an endless loop in the heads of Chicago Cubs fans for about a week now, and the ear worm has hit a new level of success as its made its way onto the Billboard music charts for the very first time.

The song, which was released in 1984, racked up 2.5 million streaming plays during the week the Cubs won their first World Series championship in over a century, according to Billboard. That was good enough to earn it the number 21 spot on the Pop Digital Song Sales Chart, marking its first ever appearance on any Billboard list. It also checked in at No. 3 on the publication’s “Bubbling Under Hot 100” list.

According to the publication, the song also experienced a huge amount of success on sites like Spotify, where it went all the way up to No. 3 on their Viral 50 playlist, and it also was the top song on the LyricFind U.S. chart.

Goodman wrote the song in 1984 as the Cubs were slicing their way through the National League East standings. The singer unfortunately did not live to see the team win the division title that year, as he passed away after a bout with leukemia just four days before the team clinched its first playoff spot in nearly 40 years.
