Girl, 4, Dies After Being Found Unconscious at Private Suburban Pool

A 4-year-old girl died Sunday after she was found unconscious in a pool at a private suburban club, officials said.

Authorities said the young girl, who had turned four just one week earlier, was found after 7:30 p.m. in the pool at the Downers Grove Swim and Racquet Club. CPR was performed and paramedics transported the girl to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital.

Attempts to revive her at the hospital were unsuccessful, according to the Downers Grove Police Department.

The DuPage County Coroner said the girl was pronounced dead at 9:07 p.m. The preliminary cause of death was drowning.

The incident remained under investigation Monday. The girl’s identity was not being released Monday evening.

The drowning marked the first of two pool deaths in the Chicago area in 24 hours.

A 27-year-old man was found dead in a public pool on Chicago's Southwest Side early Monday. Fire officials said the cause of death is believed to be accidental drowning.
