Gang Member Killed in Drive-By Shooting

Victim was a known gang member recently released from prison

A known gang member became a victim Monday night of a deadly drive-by shooting.

Chicago Police say Jeremy Colanto, 33, of the 7500 block of North Sheridan Road, died after being shot in the back late Monday.

The shooting happened in the 3100 block of South Green Street in Bridgeport, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Officers say Colanto was standing on the street when a passenger in a black van jumped out of the vehicle and shot him. He ran down the street before collapsing. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police say the van fled north on Poplar Avenue.

Colanto served four years of a 10-year sentence for residential burglary. He was released from the Lawrence Correctional Center in far southeastern Illinois last August. He had numberous convictions for residential burglary dating back 11 years.

Medical officals plan to perform an autopsy Tuesday morning.
