Hundreds of people turned out Monday to celebrate the life of a 7-year-old boy whose life was taken far too soon.
Friends and family of Justin Plackowska filed into St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Naperville for his wake, remembering him as a loving boy who idolized his older brother.
"When I was over at his house he would always run around and we would wrestle with him," said Nick Fabbri, a friend of Justin's older brother. "Our thoughts and prayers are with him."
Notably absent from the services was Justin's mother, Elzbieta Plackowska, who authorities say stabbed the boy and another girl to death as they pleaded for their lives.
"They were so young. They were innocent. There was no reason for any of this to happen," said Bill Coney.
Authorities said Plackowska has confessed to the slayings.
DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said last week that Plackowska had been upset about her own father's recent death. Authorities also said Plackowska attacked the children to hurt her husband.
Plackowska's public defender said that his client is on suicide watch and very upset.
Funeral arrangements for the young girl, Olivia Dworakowski, weren't made public by Monday evening.
