A four-alarm fire destroyed several buildings that held businesses and apartments in downtown Utica early Sunday morning.
The fire started in a second-floor apartment above one of the businesses in the 100 block of Mill Street at about 3:05 a.m., Utica fire officials said.
The fire was initially categorized as two-alarm, but it was upgraded to four-alarm after it spread to three other businesses nearby. The fire burned for more than an hour, fire officials said.
One man was found unresponsive in one of the building and was transported to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru, Ill., fire officials said.
