A retired police officer died after he was found shot in the backyard of his Melrose Park home late last week.

Sgt. Ronald Susek, 61, was discovered in his backyard in the 1600 block of North 14th Avenue by a neighbor early Thursday morning and was pronounced dead shortly after at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, according to a release from Melrose Park police.

An autopsy Friday was deemed inconclusive, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Melrose Park police are still investigating the incident but few details are known, the release said.
